President


My name is Alphonce Bigirwa. A Tanzanian and TCA member since 2002. I’m passionate in advocating for positive change and building meaningful relationships within Tanzanian community and across Kiswahili Speaking Communities. Working alongside a great and dedicated leadership team, I aspire and strive to see our community thrive. Outside work in financial and logistics transportation industries, I enjoy music entertainments, spending time with my family, arts and crafts, and making delicious BBQ for community and private events. I’m a strong believer in "Palipo na Umoja, Hakuna Matata".

My name is David Mhenga originally from Tanzania, Morogoro. A member of TCA since 2015. Passionate about embracing new cultures, I enjoy sharing my Tanzanian heritage while pursuing opportunities in Information Technology, building connections, and giving back to my community. 

DEPUTY SECRETARY


My name is Shubira Bocko and I was born in Kagera, Tanzania and grew up in Chicago. I’ve been a member of TCA since 2002. Professionally, I have close to a decade of experience working in immigration services in both the nonprofit sector and government sector. My immigrant background and experience serving in Peace Corps Tanzania drives my interests and passion for giving back to my community. Outside of work I enjoy reading, traveling, and watching movies. 

TREASURER


My name is Anapendo Mrema-Penman.  As a proud first-generation Tanzanian diaspora and an active member of TCA Midwest, I am deeply committed to empowering and uniting our community. Serving as the treasurer for TCA Midwest has allowed me to contribute meaningfully by fostering financial stability and supporting initiatives that strengthen our shared values and aspirations. I am passionate about creating opportunities for growth and building bridges within the Tanzanian and Kiswahili-speaking communities. I believe that through collaboration, we can achieve extraordinary results and ensure our collective success. Outside of my volunteer efforts, I enjoy exploring nature through camping and hiking with my husband, and I am always seeking ways to grow, learn, and give back.

My name is Rehema Dearing I was born and raised in the beautiful Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, I carry a deep appreciation for my roots. I am happily married and proud to be a mother to a wonderful son. Connecting with my family, friends, and the vibrant TCA community fills my heart with joy and purpose. My passion for travel fuels my desire to embark on new adventures and broaden my horizons. I find great fulfillment in witnessing others succeed and courageously chase their dreams. Being a part of the TCA community allows me to foster growth, create a supportive environment, and actively pursue happiness together.

COUNSELOR


Rev. Catherine Abihudi is the lead pastor at Tumaini Swahili Chapel and the founder of Raising Daughters of Abraham International (RADOA). With a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Communication and a Master’s degree in Pastoral Care and Leadership, she leverages her expertise to foster community growth and cross-cultural understanding within her congregation and beyond. Deeply committed to community building and cultural exploration, Rev. Abihudi serves on the boards of Calvary International Gospel Church (CIGC), Pastoral Care for Africa (PCA), and the United African Organization (UAO). Her work centers on empowering the African diaspora and bridging cultural divides. Rev. Abihudi lives in the Chicago area with her husband, Rev. Charles Abihudi, and their five children.
