Undertaking educational and cultural activities that will promote and enhance positive identity for the Tanzanian community in the United States of America.

Rendering support and assistance for the study and promotion of arts and sciences by means of grants and contributions.

Rendering support by means of contributions and grants to establish charitable, scientific, cultural, literary and educational endeavors of all kinds and descriptions.

Providing ways and means through which members may interact on matters of mutual interest.

Historical Background Timeline

 Late 1990s: Key figures, including Dr. S. Mwakatapanya and Dr. N. Mwitula, discussed forming a credit union for the Tanzanian community.

 Mid – 1995: Dr. S. Mwakatapanya proposed the credit union idea at a Kiswahili Service gathering, leading to the decision to first form a unifying organization.

 Early – 1998: TANZANIAN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – MIDWEST USA was established to unify Tanzanians regardless of creed.

 Early – 2002: A conference in Chicago approved the association's formation, set the membership fee at $50, and resolved to seek incorporation and tax-exempt status.

 Mid – 2002: Attorney Mr. M. Matsapola assisted with legal matters, guiding the incorporation and tax-exemption processes.

 November 6, 2002: The association was officially incorporated in Illinois as TANZANIAN COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION – MIDWEST USA, NFP, with Dr. E. L. Kaijage as the initial registered agent.

 June 2, 2003: The association received federal tax-exempt status under Section 501(a).

November 18, 2003: A general meeting was held in Chicago to elect permanent leadership for the association.

We celebrate heritage, strengthen community bonds, promote inclusivity, provide educational opportunities, showcase talents, engage youth, offer support networks, and enhance community visibility. By bringing people together and highlighting Tanzanian traditions, these events help maintain cultural identity, build relationships, and create a stronger, more inclusive community.
